A Little Something New

So, a new version of a site launched today. The changes of the site are pretty hot, and I’ve had alot of thoughts about it throughout the day. But before I talk about them, I want to first mention something about some of the more current big social network sites, like Facebook and MySpace.
My issue with the current state of social network sites, is that they are all doing the same shit. That’s boring. I’ve tried out so many different sites, and everyone thinks they can to the “same old thing” better than the last. But no one focuses on what the other sites aren’t doing.
Now, I’m not opposed to these sites what so ever. They’re big for a reason. But I’ve noticed something about them that makes perfect sense. They lack features that keep me on the site. I don’t really use MySpace a whole lot, but when I log onto Facebook, I see who’s updated their profiles, and that’s about it. After that, I log off. Alot of these social network sites seem to lack, what could be, a vital part to their sites. And that is, a lack of more in-depth interaction between friends.
What do I mean? Well, of course you have the “Write on wall” feature and “send a message” feature, but that’s not the best of interaction. Those are more of something you want to do for a quick “hello” or something. The sites lack conversation. Most of the people on your “friends” list, you already know, so conversation and more interaction would be a breeze, if the features were available.
So this latest version of this 9rules site, has a feature called Notes, that they released last summer. The members and people around the community interact within these Notes, where you read different topics that people start and the convo takes off. So the new feature released today was the my.9rules, which allows people to make profiles and whatnot. Now, the making profiles is nothing new, but the fact that it’s directly related to the Notes, then you are able to more interact with the people that you are used to seeing in these convo’s.
It’s really a sweet feature, if you ask me. Now, I’m trying to that this site is better than another site, because the focus of the 9rules site isn’t social networking, it’s about pushing out it’s members content from their blogs, and connecting them with readers. But I would say give it a try, it’s a good place to kill some time and read and participate in some good convo.
I’ve had a profile over there since they first released the Notes feature, and it’s one of the first and last sites I visit throughout the day. So, you might like it, you might not, but I think it’s pretty sweet. Give it a try.
Peace.
