Let the Barking Dogs Bark

You ever drive or walk by a dog fenced in and notice it start barking at you? You don’t know why it starts barking, but you know if you stop and try to approach to dog, it will probably keep barking louder and louder. You know that you didn’t really do anything mean to the dog for it to start barking, but it does anyways. The only way around the barking dog, is just to keep going. He will eventually find something else to bark at.

A couple weeks ago, a news story popped up in the news about my sisters pastor, whom I’ve known since I was really young. It was pretty frustrating to see the news try to hate on him in this manner. They tried everything they possibly could to find a [missing] negative about a pastor having a $3.5 million dollar house. They tried asking members of the church if they knew about this, and bringing hidden cameras to the church etc. They couldn’t believe his pastor had so much money.

What’s really lame about it is, they were so skeptical in the fact that he deserved it. What they chose to leave out of the story is that he was a [near] top executive at Ford, GM, and Chrysler, has a bachelors degree, and two MBA’s from Standford. They didn’t choose, and didn’t know, that he has been busting his ass since he was 11 years old, in both the religious and career sense. No, that wasn’t important for the news story, they had to try to find a negative.

If anyone deserves that kind of lifestyle and money, why not a preacher? He’s not corrupt, though they tried to make it seem that way. Do athletes deserve $100 million contracts? Do actors deserve millions of dollars for, well acting, and memorizing a script? I don’t get why a pastor, who does well, and has a huge church doesn’t deserve that kind of life.

I went to church today (since I haven’t been in awhile) and he brought up all of the news b.s. and told a few stories that were relevant, and it really showed how much it bothered him about the negative press of a man who does good. But he also showed that he is going to keep moving forward and not apologize for his success.

Anyways, I hate gossip, and always have. Everyone has been apart of gossip in one way or another, and it’s hella annoying. But the only thing you can really do is walk past the barking dogs, and eventually they will find someone else to bark at.

Peace
