It has been a damn good weekend. Though I’m a tad bit more broke than Friday morning, the experience was well worth it. For the past week, before Friday, I had been doing major scouting on this product. I was trying to find out for so long, how many units each AT&T store was going to get, but no one had answers. I tried finding out how many units the Apple store was getting, but again, no one had answers.

So, the mission, which I definitely chose to accept, was to get the iPhone and make it to the Tigers game that started at 7:05 p.m. Obstacles? Well, the phones don’t go on sale until 6:00 p.m., long lines, and traffic. All of the above are terrible obstacles when you are on a time schedule…

The big question I had to figure out was, do I go an Apple store that would have more units but tons of more people, or the AT&T store with less people and less units?

So I was going to have to go into Friday with a gameplan. And yes, I had a gameplan. If I was going to spend this kind of money on a mobile device, on opening day, with a snug schedule, I didn’t want to wing it. So, I figured I would get to the Apple store around 12:30 p.m., and just post up all day and wait it out. Then around 5:15 I would break out the scouting report (my list of AT&T stores in the area) and starting frantically calling to see what the lines were like, and unit count. I might have had to pull an audible and scramble over to another store with shorter lines.

When I walked into the mall, I saw the news crew and a nice lengthy line, though it was not as long as I thought it was. I sadly walked to the end of it though, to geek out with the rest of the fanatics and Apple junkies. The people I was in line with were cool though, which is good. I even got a free lunch because some lady in line felt generous and bought four of us lunch. I didn’t argue, I was starving.

The total wait time in line was 5.5 hours. Yes, it was a lot, I can’t lie, but for one, it went by very fast, and two it was worth it. The line started moving at about 5:30 to condense the line and prepare for the opening. There were about 120 people in front of me. I can’t lie, I was nervous about them selling out. Very nervous. But this guy from AT&T was walking around answering questions, and I asked if they’d sell out before I got one, and he said that they are going to try and accommodate everyone in the line. Ok, that was between 300-400 people. I felt better.

At 6:00 on the dot, they opened up the store, and it was game time. To give you an idea on how fast the line went, as I said there were over 100 people ahead of me, the doors opened at 6, and I was home with my iPhone by 6:30. Yes, I was shocked too, but I got one!!

I tried so hard not to speed on the way home! I called Kell, who was also going to the Tigers game, and she mentioned that she wasn’t ready quite yet because she didn’t think I would be done that fast. So I had some time to go home and activate my phone through iTunes, which was a mere 10 minutes.

All worked out well, and we still got to make it to the Tigers game by the bottom of the 4th. They lost, I didn’t care, but it was fun because baseball games usually are, even if you aren’t a fan of baseball……like myself.

So, my mission was accomplished. Every bit of time spent waiting in line, and every penny that I spent was 100% worth the wait. I have wanted this phone ever since I read (over a year ago) that Apple put in a patent for a touchscreen device. This thing is downright amazing, and I have never used such a thing.

This is easily the coolest gadget I’ve ever had, and I was more excited to get this iPhone than any other gadget I’ve ever gotten. That says a whole lot. Non of my other cell phones come close to not only the sleek design and form factor, but the ease of use. Seriously, this is probably the easier phone to use, it’s sickening. And I promise that you would agree if you played with one.

Anyways, I’m done rambling, here are more pics from the day. I am going to enjoy my Sunday and help some homies move.

Peace

So, I just got to the mall about 20 minutes ago to get in line for my iPhone. There are about 70(ish) people in front of me, so as of now, it looks like I have a good chance of getting one……but who knows. I must say that I am hella excited for this thing. Being a huge gadget fanatic, I must say that I have never seen so much hype over a product. It’s ridiculous.

Everyone here in line is pretty damn excited too, and since I’ve been here, there has been no other topic of conversation, which being the nerd that I am (sometimes), it’s not too bad. I still have 4.5 hours to go though, so I will update after awhile.

Well not quite yet. It doesn’t come out until June. But for the past year, I have been awaiting the arrival of this device. People had been speculating and starting all kinds of rumors of what it would be, and what it would look like. Well on Monday, Steve Jobs, the big boss man at Apple, announced it at this conference.

I wasn’t even planning on writing about this, but then I saw this video of the device being used, and damn, it’s even better than all of the descriptions and specs had mentioned. Now, I know what you’re thinking, that it’s just another phone, and because I’m a nerd that loves technology and gadgets, that of course I’d think it was cool. My friends, this is not the case, see for yourself:

You believe me now? Mark my words, this will revolutionize the next generation of cell phones. This is history in the making, and I find it hard to believe that any other phone that will come out this year, and possibly next year, will compare. You know what the competitors are probably saying at this very moment…..

OH SHIT

That’s what they’re saying.

Now, for me to get this phone, there are some loop holes. For one, it’s only for Cingular, and I have Verizon. So, my contract ends with Verizon in November, so I will need to find a way to get out of it when this phone releases. Second, I will need a large chunk of money saved to purchase this thing. It starts at $500 with a 2-year contact. Ok, done. Now you’re probably thinking that is way too much. But let’s go over exactly what this device is:

Obviously has a phone integrated

Apple’s best iPod yet built it

Full scale web browser (not the jenky ones that are one phones now)

4GB or 8GB hard drive

Of course there is a lot more specs, but when you break down those things, the price makes a little more sense. You obviously noticed that I’m calling this a device and not a phone, and that’s obviously for a reason, which you see why. So with that breakdown, the price seems a little more worth it. So I will need to put money aside, which won’t be a problem seeing as though I’d have two forms of income with my day job and side company.

So <del>if</del> when I get this device, I am probably sacrificing the purchase of a PS3. Oh well, that doesn’t bother me at all. I would probably use this device a lot more than I do a PS3 to be honest.

But, I have no been able to stop reading about this thing, and I can’t say that I’ve been more excited about a piece of technology releasing than this. So…..you have been informed. If you feel like it, read more info on it for yourself. I can’t wait until this thing comes out.

Peace
