So, I wasn’t even planning on writing on the tragedy that has hit the news. But then I read this article that is a little frustrating because of the idiocy of the media. No need to go into detail about the stuff that happened, just turn on the news and you’ll get your fill, but what’s lame, is that all of these media outlets try to pin all the wrong reasons on how a person can just flip out like that.

The article starts off like this…

The recent shooting at Virginia Tech was a very human tragedy, and it is human nature to immediately try to figure out who is to blame whenever tragedy happens.

I both agree and disagree with this. First off, ok, it’s fine to try and figure out why that person flipped out. No one ever says that person was crazy, no, that’s too easy. They need to blame something, or someone…

However, instead of coming to the obvious conclusion—that the blame should rest solely with the shooter himself, who was apparently a very disturbed individual—certain media outlets have taken it upon themselves to suggest that violent video games are actually at fault.

For real? Not the dozens of violet movies that come out each year that are a lot more close to reality than video games? Not the parents who raise this kid? But a damn game? I think that is some bullshit, and just an easy answer. What about the millions of other people that play these video games, including myself, who aren’t crazy?

How can you just straight to the basis of blaming a video game before saying the parents had nothing to do with their kid being crazy. I could live with that:

“John, did you hear about what happened?”

“Yeah I heard some dude went crazy, and killed some people.”

Sorry if that sounds insensitive, but I’m just trying to prove a point. I guess I’ll never understand why the media sometimes looks in all the wrong places for answers. Then, the last thing that really annoyed me in that article was a quote from Dr. Phil…

This is nothing new—the tragedy at Columbine was also blamed on the computer game DOOM—but the difference this time is that there doesn’t appear to be even a casual relationship between games and the shooting. Nevertheless, Dr. Phil immediately went on CNN’s Larry King Show to state that “common sense tells you that if these kids are playing video games, where they’re on a mass killing spree in a video game, it’s glamorized on the big screen, it’s become part of the fiber of our society.”

Common sense? Give me a break. What makes video games “glamorized” over violent movies, books, music, etc. Actually, why do all these things come up before the parents are the actual kids’ mental stability is questioned. That, I’ll also never understand.

Chris rock was on point in this following video clip about the incident in Colorado awhile ago, but applies to now-a-days. This video did not give me the idea to write this post, though, but I thought about the video the minute I thought about the name. So to shed some humor on this situation, as well as some truthful thinking, here’s the video…

My heart and thoughts definitely go out to the victims and their families. I hate the fact that I have to watch that kind of depressing shit on the news all night. What in the world would cause someone to do something like that? I think Chris Rock answers that question.

Peace

You ever drive or walk by a dog fenced in and notice it start barking at you? You don’t know why it starts barking, but you know if you stop and try to approach to dog, it will probably keep barking louder and louder. You know that you didn’t really do anything mean to the dog for it to start barking, but it does anyways. The only way around the barking dog, is just to keep going. He will eventually find something else to bark at.

A couple weeks ago, a news story popped up in the news about my sisters pastor, whom I’ve known since I was really young. It was pretty frustrating to see the news try to hate on him in this manner. They tried everything they possibly could to find a [missing] negative about a pastor having a $3.5 million dollar house. They tried asking members of the church if they knew about this, and bringing hidden cameras to the church etc. They couldn’t believe his pastor had so much money.

What’s really lame about it is, they were so skeptical in the fact that he deserved it. What they chose to leave out of the story is that he was a [near] top executive at Ford, GM, and Chrysler, has a bachelors degree, and two MBA’s from Standford. They didn’t choose, and didn’t know, that he has been busting his ass since he was 11 years old, in both the religious and career sense. No, that wasn’t important for the news story, they had to try to find a negative.

If anyone deserves that kind of lifestyle and money, why not a preacher? He’s not corrupt, though they tried to make it seem that way. Do athletes deserve $100 million contracts? Do actors deserve millions of dollars for, well acting, and memorizing a script? I don’t get why a pastor, who does well, and has a huge church doesn’t deserve that kind of life.

I went to church today (since I haven’t been in awhile) and he brought up all of the news b.s. and told a few stories that were relevant, and it really showed how much it bothered him about the negative press of a man who does good. But he also showed that he is going to keep moving forward and not apologize for his success.

Anyways, I hate gossip, and always have. Everyone has been apart of gossip in one way or another, and it’s hella annoying. But the only thing you can really do is walk past the barking dogs, and eventually they will find someone else to bark at.

Peace

So on the rare occasion that I watch MTV, I gave it a chance tonight because I wanted to check out this diary of Jay-Z. So I thought it was going to be about him being on tour and whatnot, but this was a little different. This one was about Jay working with the UN on some fresh water project.

Anyways, he went around to these little villages that were extremely poor, and with no running water. This one girl said she would wake up at 6 a.m., and until 10 a.m. she was out getting water for her family, which was like 7 people. After that, she would walk to school where, again, there was no running water, and it was right next to this huge pond of sewage from a broke pipe.

Around this pond of sewage were people selling food products……..imagine the germs. As interesting as the special was, it was quite disturbing to see. What was even more interesting, was that a ton of these kids in these poor schools had camera phones and were taking pictures of Jay-Z. Now, it’s cool that they got to take his picture, but it kind of makes you wonder about the priorities of people.

Is it just me, or is something wrong with the picture of extremely poor villages, with no running or clean water, yet these kids have cell phones. This needs no further explanation than me thinking that someone (or company/corporation) would rather make an extra buck, than provide better living for the needy. And to give an idea of needy: the average person needs about 20 liters of water a day for personal hygiene, and this one family (of 7) had 20 liters a day for the whole fam.

I did think that it was awesome that Jay-Z took the time to visit these places to get an idea of their situation, and on top of that making donations to the schools to help bring fresh water. That says alot, and makes a huge statement. What’s pathetic, though, is all these other “hip hop” artists to yap about ballin and shit would never do anything like that. I’ve never heard of no Young Jeezy visiting a poor country and giving donations to schools. They would rather have a necklace.

Water is one thing that you absolutely can’t live without, yet it’s probably one of the most easily accessible things in this country. It’s really sad seeing whole communities and schools without water, and having kids spend hours of their day to hike to the nearest stream to get water. Now, seriously, could you imagine having to spend the first four hours of your day fetching water for your family? And we have water fountains everywhere…

peace
